Neonatal ICU

Care for premature or sick newborns has a long tradition in Jihlava. A Differentiated Neonatal Care Unit was established within our department as early as 1988.
Since 2007 we have been proud holders of the status of Perinatology Centre of Intermediate Care (PCIMP). This entitles us to care for newborns born from the completed 31st week of pregnancy in singleton pregnancies and from the 32nd week in multiple pregnancies.
The neonatal ICU admits babies directly from the delivery room, babies transferred from the healthy newborn ward whose health condition requires intensive treatment or monitoring, and also – mostly at the parents' request – newborns born in Perinatology Centres of Intensive Care (most often in Prague or Brno) whose health condition and maturity allow transport.
Parents can visit their baby at any time and, as soon as possible, they are involved in everyday care. Our aim is to feed babies with breast milk; if a baby cannot be breastfed for any reason, we give expressed breast milk by alternative methods. Mothers/parents learn these skills under the supervision of trained staff.
Two double rooms with a bathroom and WC and a fully equipped kitchenette are available for mothers of hospitalised children.
Follow-up care for perinatally at-risk children after discharge from hospital is provided by a specialised outpatient clinic.
