Wound Healing Unit

Department description

The main task and goal of this section is to set up an effective nursing process in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic issues of non-healing wounds across all hospital disciplines supported by the evidence-based nursing.

As wound healing specialist nurses, we evaluate non-healing wounds and defects (pressure lesions, decubitus, arterial, venous, diabetic and mixed defects, traumatic wounds with prolonged healing time, oncological wounds, scalds, burns, post-radiation dermatitis) in patients hospitalized in inpatient wards of the hospital, we suggest the type of suitable phase healing materials for local treatment of non-healing wounds.
In monitoring the healing of the patient's skin defects, we work closely with the ward nurse in charge and the nurse caring for the patient.

When a patient is discharged to the home, we take over the care of the patient with a non-healing wound in our " nurse " wound healing clinic, if he/she wishes. We provide outpatient nursing care for patients with non-healing wounds in the shared outpatient clinic of the Chronic Wound Treatment Centre of the Hospital Jihlava

At the request of physicians of all specialties, we also evaluate wounds or skin defects in specialty clinics or Urgent Care clinics, suggest appropriate phase healing materials, and work with the physician in the administration associated with initiating phase healing with a signal code for insurance companies and in the prescription of materials. We then treat these patients on agreed upon days in consultation with the outpatient physician in a "nurse" wound healing clinic.

In the outpatient clinic of the Chronic Wound Treatment Centre of the Hospital Jihlava we actively participate in the nursing care of patients of MUDr. Čech and MUDr. Hon during office hours twice a week.

We also provide consultative support to nurses working in primary care in home care and hospice agencies.

We perform regular Consultations of non-healing wounds in the Senior Center Lesnov, where, on the basis of a framework contract with the Hospital Jihlava we consult with patients, evaluate non-healing wounds, suggest suitable phase healing materials and provide prescription of phase healing materials.

Since March 2023 we have had a new framework agreement with Senior Centre Stříbrné Terasy, where we carry out regular consultations of non-healing wounds. Based on the framework agreement with Hospital Jihlava, we carry out consultations with patients, evaluate non-healing wounds, suggest suitable wet healing materials and provide prescription of phase healing materials.

We organize partial seminars for the departments of the Hospital Jihlava on the topics - decubitus, incontinence dermatitis (IAD), positioning of patients as prevention of decubitus.

We organize partial training for HN, SN and "dressing" nurses - focused on wet healing materials used in the Hospital Jihlava.

We participate in professional seminars, symposia and certified courses, this year it is a course - Podiatric Nurses. It is about improving the qualification of Wound Healing Specialist Nurse.
