- Where to find us
The blood collection unit (formerly the Blood-take room) is located on the ground floor of the diagnostic Building D next to the Department of Imaging Methods (X-ray). It can be accessed both from the Health Centre (Dům zdraví) and through the hospital's internal medicine building.
- Blood-take hours
Monday: 6:00 – 14:00 Tuesday: 6:00 – 14:00 Wednesday: 6:00 – 14:00 Thursday: 6:00 – 14:00 Friday: 6:00 – 14:00 - What is carried out
At the blood collection unit (formerly the blood-take room), venous blood and capillary blood from the finger are collected for haematological, biochemical, microbiological and immunological tests. We take blood from adults and children aged 10 and over (for younger children, samples are taken at the paediatric outpatient clinic). Together with the blood sample, we can also accept other biological material from the patient for testing – urine, sputum, stool. The patient collects these samples themselves into standardised collection containers, which they receive from their attending physician, who also instructs them on the correct way to collect the sample.
- How to make appointment
Clients come for blood collection without an appointment, with a request form completed by the referring doctor. Without a properly completed request form (with the requested tests marked, the stamp of the healthcare facility and the signature of the requesting doctor), the sample cannot be taken.
- Samples for payment at the patient's request
The requested test must be reported to the nurse at the blood collection unit, who will arrange billing and then carry it out. The patient collects the result in person at the laboratory or, on request, it is sent by post. Payment is set according to the current price per point. As a rule, tests are not performed anonymously and, where required by law, positive results of tests listed by law must be reported to the relevant authorities and institutions.
- Instructing the patient before a blood-take
- Some special examinations or functional tests require prescribed dietary or regimen measures. Information about these will be given to the patient by the attending physician well in advance of the sampling.
- Blood taking is usually done in the morning, usually on an empty stomach.
- The patient is instructed not to fast during the afternoon and evening (10-12 hours before the procedure). The last meal before a blood-take should be easily digestible.
- The patient should arrange with the doctor to skip any medications before the blood-take. If they can be omitted, the patient should skip them 3 days in advance. Otherwise, the medications to be administered should be listed on the guide list.
- Before the blood draw, the patient does not eat breakfast, does not smoke, does not drink black coffee. However, he should not suffer from thirst. It is advisable if he/she drinks 1/4 l of unsweetened tea or water in advance.
- The blood takeing should take place in the morning or early afternoon.
- It is not advisable to exert yourself physically (fast walking, running, walking up stairs, etc.) before the blood draw.
- Visiting the blood collection unit (formerly the blood-take room)
We ask clients who visit us for blood collection to take a queue number in the waiting room and wait to be called into the blood collection unit. We cannot guarantee that the sample will be taken immediately without waiting. The order is not strictly binding; the nurse may change it as necessary. When your number is called, hand the nurse your queue number, the request forms from your doctor and your health insurance card. Where applicable, hand in urine samples, etc.
- Safety measures
We use a disposable system of tubes for blood samples, which increases the quality of the sample (pre-analytical part of the examination) and the safety of the patient and staff. All blood taking equipment is disposable and is intended for one patient only.
- After donation
The patient waits for the instructions of the nurse and leaves the room only after the arm has been properly treated after the injection. Any nausea or other discomfort associated with the procedure should be brought to the attention of the nurse in a timely manner. It is recommended not to strain the arm or carry heavy loads after the procedure.
- What happens to the samples
The nurse at the blood collection unit arranges for the collected material to be delivered to the relevant laboratory at Nemocnice Jihlava p.o. Our laboratory will then examine the sample or, if the test is not performed here, arrange for it to be carried out in another contracted laboratory.
