Jihlava Hospital Is the Only Hospital in the Vysočina Region to Introduce a New Method of Cardiac Pacing

The Cardiology Department of Jihlava Hospital has performed its first procedures of physiological pacing of the heart's conduction system. As the only hospital in the Vysočina Region, it now offers this modern method, which activates the heart muscle in a more natural way and helps maintain properly coordinated heart contractions.

Conduction system pacing is a modern approach to treating heart rhythm disorders. Unlike conventional pacing, this method places the lead directly in the area of the heart's natural electrical pathways. The aim is to achieve the most natural possible spread of the electrical impulse and the best possible synchronisation of the heart's contraction.

The Cardiology Department of Jihlava Hospital now focuses on left bundle branch area pacing. During the procedure, the pacing lead is placed in the upper part of the interventricular septum, in or very close to the left bundle branch. This allows a more physiological activation of the heart's ventricles.

"Our goal is for pacing to match the natural function of the heart as closely as possible. Thanks to the targeted placement of the lead, we can achieve better synchronisation of the ventricles. This method is particularly important for patients in whom it is essential to minimise the risk of developing or worsening heart failure associated with long-term pacing," says MUDr. Petr Šimek, Head of the Cardiology Department.

"Under normal circumstances, the heart is activated through its own electrical conduction system. If this system does not work properly, we deliver the electrical impulse to the heart muscle artificially using a pacemaker. Physiological pacing aims to make the most of the heart's natural electrical pathways and preserve its coordinated activity," adds MUDr. Jiří Hlas, the operating physician.

The new method expands treatment options for patients who need a pacemaker. Proper coordination of the contraction of the individual chambers of the heart is important for the heart's optimal performance and its ability to supply the body with blood. Physiological pacing therefore represents a significant step forward in the care of selected patients with heart rhythm disorders.

"Introducing this method is the result of professional training and the development of our capabilities in modern cardiac pacing. We are glad that we can offer patients in the Vysočina Region another treatment option to a sufficient extent, so that they do not have to seek a specialised centre outside the region," sums up MUDr. Miloš Holub, Deputy Head of the Department.

By introducing the new method, Jihlava Hospital continues to develop specialised cardiology care and to expand the availability of modern treatment for patients from the Vysočina Region. It is expected that at least a hundred patients a year will undergo the procedure.
